Cancer, I think Ted posted that back up so that he could point out the illustrator's views on Devko's hair.

That's probably true Vic, but knowing the lovely Teds he didn't know.
Or I could just be messing with him seeing as we're joke-y poke-y like that.

Just reminding people, since I'm seeing it alot even from Mac, but this isn't a manga it's a comic. Or a graphic novel. Point in case even Korean comics are called manhwa so if we were going to call this anything foreign I guess we would go with that since the Avatar animation was done after a Korean style.

I'm not trying to be elitist or anything, just really picky. It's not a manga. I need to head this off before it becomes too common. There's no reason to use a Japanese word to randomly refer to an American comic. Avatar can stand on its own two feet without needing to lean so heavily on the anime-fanboy/fangirl community so to force it into this position as if it somehow needs the backup is just wrong. I think you're all just doing it unconsciously which is why I feel it my duty to point it out. I realize that even the creator herself refers to it as a manga, but it isn't. The term should only be applied to Japanese manga, made in Japan. Just like you should call Korean graphic novels Manhwa and American graphic novels: graphic novels.

I think the artist should be ashamed to pander so obviously by using this term since, as I said, Avatar doesn't need help from the J-fan community to be a good series. It's not shameful to call something a graphic novel, I mean look at stuff like Elfquest, they never felt the need to play semantics with what their books were.

So anyway. Please call it a graphic novel and send an e-mail to the creator reminding her that it's okay for every new, cool comic or animation to not be called an anime or a manga. We'll still watch/read them.

The reason why they're calling it a Manga because it's being drawn in such a style and paneled in such a style.
I mean, I could see why it matters to you, but...does it really matter that much that it should be called a Graphic Novel even if it's being produced by TokyoPop? (I know it's not being published or produced or whathaveyou by them, actually I'm not sure what it's being produced/published/whatever by)
Like, for instance. A:TLA. Even though it's American, it clearly does not look like an American cartoon. Some fans call it an Anime.

I mean, whatever. My opinion doesn't matter in the situation because regardless you'll still wave your die-hard fanboy Japanese flag. Lol. I still love ya anyway.

I believe the company producing them are calling them mangas. Sounds official enough to me -even if it doesn't 'fit into the box' as snuggly as some would like. I never understood why it matters what box A:TLA falls into. Nor does it really matter what label they put on that box. It rocks and I am sure the mangas or nonmangas - graphic novels - whatever will as well. Why do people need to stress about these little things that don't matter. Why do they need for things to fall and lay perfectly into one box - one genre - one slot -whatever?

I like things that can't quite be classified. It makes for a more interesting world.

Now I am off my soapbox.
