I disagree, i loved the whole shape, design and detail on his back.
I wish he would turn into the avatar state with his back uncovered,
i can imagine it to look epic

His tattoos didn't cross on his back in the show. I wonder why they changed it.

I believe the arrows were supposed to represent the chi pathways in the show, which is why they light up on air nomad avatars. Seems like your chi could flow in four directions from your heart. Anyway, I like it.

it wouldn't look like a cross.
