LA Times Article - Budget and Business

Postby riceloll on Thu Jun 24, 2010 9:28 pm

http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-c ... 2454.story

"With a production cost of $150 million and a blockbuster-size $130-million marketing budget, "The Last Airbender" is more than twice as expensive as any of Shyamalan's previous eight films."

Everywhere else I've read the budget has been reported as $110 million, but this article is very recent so it might be true.

"Paramount's Grey said he was optimistic about the movie's commercial prospects based on audience reaction in test screenings and strong prerelease "tracking," particularly among males."

This makes me happy 8-)

3D usually costs 5-10 million I heard, so that would only bump the budget up to 115-120 million.

that number is huge. Now i suspect TLA will have to make considerable amount at the worldwide box office for studio to greenlight any sequel.

Than Prince of Persia?! We had better! Pfft, that would such a tragedy if we didn't. But I think Hell would then freeze over and the world would be doomed if PoP made more the TLA.... o.0

A marketing budget almost as much as the cost of the film itself? Now that's hard to believe.
