I guess I'm the only one who didn't like the soundtrack?

It was too epic for me. Too much brass, too loud, etc. I was hoping for more of what the teaser had last year. That airy, flutey, au mystere kind of feel. Also, I would have liked more gentle, playful songs for the characters in their downtime (if there was any...). A good example for that would be "Concerning Hobbits" from the LOTR soundtrack. Although so many horrible things were going on, they still managed to slip some sweet stuff in.

But then again, the movie was quite literally forced to be "epic," so I guess the soundtrack had to follow.

*sigh*

Well, I'm gonna miss her
When I get home
But right now I'm on this lake shore
And I'm sitting in the sun
I'm sure it'll hit me
when I walk through that door tonight
Oh looky there...I've got a bite!

I dunno, have you listened to the soundtrack independent of the film. I agree that in the film, the soundtrack did feel forced, but the album has far more of the softer, airier, flutey type music which balances the epic themes much better.

Yeah, I liked the score except for in the part where Ong goes into the Avatar State in the finale. Too...flowy for me. Not sure. It didn't evoke the emotion I wanted it to, I guess.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the movie. When the wave was towering over the fire nation the music was too subtle and then later when Aang bowed in front of the tribe it was really loud and intense. If the music for those two parts were switched they would fit the scenes better.

Ha! no, I just think the music hit just the right emotional keys and have no real qualms. The composer dude was fantastic, especially in the scene where aang is fighting in the NWT and trowing spikes and stuff. Beautiful. Maybe there could have been more of those Asian flutey sounds (that didn't sound racist did it?) b/c it was nice in that teaser. The film Hero could be a good reference for what I'm talking about (with the Asian flutey-ness).

Also, I like that you totally called me out on my noob status :D

I wish I heard the score first before watching the movie. Now hearing these tunes, I have the scenes burned in my memory with it. And ya that last scene with "Onng" - what was up with that. I couldn't even pay attention to the soundtrack properly. Throughout the movie really, I couldn't pay attention to the score properly 'cause of the bad movie itself.

Sigh well like I said, I'm scared to buy and listen to it 'cause I'd be weeping my butt off thinking how great the movie should have been with the soundtrack. Don't get me wrong though. Since the teaser music and the tunes the official site has been playing, I was so heart felt and felt the sense of an epic adventure it was so defining. Heck I was suppose to own the soundtrack first but the retailers I go to didn't have them. Now I'm just debating myself if I wanna buy it now.

Yeah, in the weeks before the film came out, I acctually sorta imagined what scenes each song would be used for. Personally, I always saw "Flow like water" as the scene where Yue gives her life to revive the moon spirit, because it seemed dramatic, but poetic and tragic at the same time.

I imagined a live action version of the actual blue spirit escape from the show as going with the track of the same name. Turns out the actual thing was far less dynamic then the track implied it would be.

Also, I know other people thought the same thing, but during the airbender suite and the blue spirit, we hear this sor tof pompus marching theme, and I thought that just screamed fire nation theme. I could see Zhao struting down corridors with his troops or Vast swaths of fire nation soldiers menecingly marching into an earth kingdom town.

And when I heard "Journey to the northern water tribe" I got this sense of a sort of Lord of the Rings esq traveling through epic landscapes thing. Once again, I was dissapointed with only the montage of them "starting the rebelion".

I really think the score was implemented poorly and that it rarely was used at it's fullest potential. Even if you've seen the film, i'd still recomend buying the soundtrack. Just imagine your own movie when you listen to it. :D
