I am pretty sure the full cast hasn't been fully chosen or finalized yet. Some are thinking Azula might not appear until the second movie.

that's what i'm thinking too because she was only shown once at the end, in her teenage form. i guess they will only look for book 2 characters when they finished filming the 1st. some of my friends would love to audition (for the 2nd film) so i was wondering if that statement of "accepts submissions outside the USA" still applies?

I think you guys might be right about Azula not comming in until the second movie. Except the way that trilogies work make me think differently. They'll probably tag her at the end of the first movie to pull people in and make them want more. I could be wrong, for my own selfish reaons I hope I am, haha. It sure would make for a goose bumpy ending though, to show an arial shot of Azula setting sale in a fire nation ship, then come in for a close up, her hair tassels blowing in the wind.

I'm pretty sure they're willing to take any applicants. If you're good you're good, they don't really care were you're from. I made an audition video with my Brother for Azula and Zuko. We posted it on youtube. We're sending it off on Monday (we're waiting for our editor). The thing I've noticed with the other youtube audition videos is that they move around and pretend to "bend" but don't do any kind of reading or sides. They can train you, send you to; martial arts, sword, archery, trampoline, shirshu riding;), boot camp, but they can't really train you to act. Of course it's a huge plus if you can do the any of the things listed above, they required the actor playing Aang to have experience in martial art for obvious reasons, but they can work with you if they like your look and your a good actor.

I doubt they'd put Azula in the first movie for two reasons.

1. They'd have to pay the actress for such a small part.
2. It's might not be as much of a "happy ending" that way. Hollywood likes their happy endings. Save the sad ending for Film 2.

Well I, would not be surprised if they did put her at the end of the first, knowing how trilogies work they want to hook you at the end of the first two, but the happy ending is at the end of the third, and I really doubt that they would have a problem with paying a actor considering the budget is HUGE and its not like actors are paid by the hour, but by contract.

I'm going to have to agree with Nightbender on this one. Thats just how movies are normally done.

BTW sorry for any confusion. I meant the main cast has been chosen. The extras and small roles might still be open. I'll edit that now.

To people who asked: location matters... a lot. They might techincally take people outside of the USA but it is a lot harder for a few reasons. First of all it is much harder for them to get you in for an audition. You would have to fly over to do so, and if you are not an adult, chances are your parents would have to come. They dont like spending that much money to fly people out unless it is for a really good reason. Then there is the issue of work permits, more paper work etc. In other words, if it is for a large role, and they really like you, and you have a strong resume, and experience that proves your worth, then they might give you a shot. Even so, you'll probably have a major disadvantage as they will try to look for anyone who is easier to work with to pick over you. Now if you happen to have an agent in LA, a place to live in LA, are cleared to work here, and are what they are looking for, then you probably wont have much of a disadvantage. In short. Do you still have a chance if you live far away? yes. Do you have a disadvantage? yes

Auditions for the first movie are done. Roles for the second movie are theoretically still open. We don't know when auditions for those will be. Probably not for 18 months or so.

UPDATE:
Our sister-site, MNightFans.com, has found out about another casting call for The Last Airbender. They will be coming to Flushing, New York on March 1st specifically to look for Asian Americans to cast in the movie.

In detail, they are looking for individuals of Cambodian, Mongolian, Chinese, Korean and Thai Descent ... MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS!!!
