Hakoda and Kya Casting Predictions

Er, sorry to burst your bubble, but the official website, and pretty much every other reference site of Avatar has said that Hakoda is Kanna's son. If you go back a couple of pages, you see something with Kanna's description and something that says that her son's heart was broken or something like that.

What official website? What other references? Why would Kanna give the necklace to her future son-in-law to give to her daughter when he daughter's seen the necklace every day of her life? Why wouldn't Kanna give the necklace to her own child? I don't follow.

I've never seen any official sources saying that myself, but I suppose it's possible. Maybe Kanna never had a daughter to pass it down to. Once her son married, his wife became like a daughter to her, and then she gave it to Kya.

Katara said "My grandmother gave my mother this necklace, and my mother passed it down to me." She never actually said her mother was her grandmother's daughter.

I am well aware that it could be either. But the likelihood is greatly bent in Kya's favor, because it's far more likely to be passed down from:

• Mother
• Daughter
• Grandaughter

Than:

• Mother
• Son-in-Law
• Wife/Fiance
• Daughter

See what I mean?

Is wiki offical though- I mean they stated her full name as Gran Gran not Kanna :p
But maybe Kanna is Hakodas mother.
From my detective work: In the flashback of Kya in the raid she didn't have any hair ornaments in the front.
Kanna has blue beads at the top of her loopies. Hakoda has blue beads hanging from his.. um.. slut strands? and Katara also has loopies + beads. Katara is sort of irrelevant though- Point is those beads differentiate between other SWT people and it could be a custom specific to that family which would lead me to suggest that Kanna and Hakoda are directly related..?
The only monumental faildiscrepancy is during Katara's vision of her mom from the back we can see her hair is Almost identical to Kataras,
including loopies. There are a few explanations to this:
Kya always had loopies but the camera caught her off guard during the raid.. JEEZ the ONE day she didn't have her beads on.
Which leads us to believe that she usually always has loopies and beads. This is either because she took into the custom becasue she MARRIED a guy with beads and its as a symbol she has joined his family OR its the other way around and Hakoda decided to wear the beads as a symbolic gesture of him joining Kanna and Kyas family. Soo yeah

Hakoda – Karl Urban

Out of all of my picks if Karl Urban ended up Hakoda I’d be beside myself. He’s a great actor who resembles Jackson and Nicola. M. Night claimed to be going for a Russian look when he casted Nicola and Urban has played Russian characters. He looks great with long hair and has had substantial fight training for his roles in The Lord of the Rings, Riddick, Doom, Pathfinder, and The Bourne Supremacy. Finally he has a great deep voice (listen to his character Bones in Star Trek).
