Season 3, of course. I like the longer hair better.

His many hairstyles are hard to choose from... I like it best in Zuko Alone and in Book 3. It's longest(in 305: The Beach) is a little too long for my likings, so I like the length he keeps it at while he's with the gaang.

YES.
Tears of joy for sure. I hated his ponytail... so, so much.
But season three Zuko-hair was definately the best. I really like it long.

The ponytail is typical among japanese samurai. You've got to shave it often. Once you become someone unimportant you can stop shaving, as Zuko since season 2.

IMO Fire nation is modeled base on Japanese culture.

P.S. how did his hair grow so fast in the second season ?

Actually, it's culture is based off of China, although it is based off of Imperial Japan in term of politics.

No, I DO think that the FN is based off of Japan. EK is China. AN is xiaolin/tibetan monks. WT is inuit.

All the nations in Avatar are amalgams of different cultures, even European ones. None of the nations is based on just one real world culture.

That IS very true, quite ...

The Earth Kingdom is probably extremely culturally diverse. Yes, there's always the Chinese undertones, but theres the sandbenders, and the northerners, etc.

As for European, maybe Shu Jing?
