Look at this picture of lava:
Image

It is literally JUST liquid earth. There's no fire. Only an Earthbender can bend it. The thing about the mud/slurry is that mud is a
Suspension: a heterogeneous fluid containing solid particles that are sufficiently large to raise the resistance to flow of the liquid.

The soil particles are suspended in the water, so for the Waterbender, you bend the water and pull the soil particles along with it (you could probably bend the water out of the mud too). For the Earthbending, it works the same as Metalbending. Its all about the framework of the particles.

And and AND if the Firedender's just bend "heat" can they bend hot, flowing plastic? No. Firebenders are just as powerless to liquid earth as they are to plastic. And even if it was on fire, the fire can't PULL the earth with it

I still think both could bend it. It is liquid earth, yes and not made of fire, but neither is lightning, and certain firebenders can bend that. We once saw Sozin bend heat, which isn't quite fire, so I think both an earthbender/firebender could bend it

OH! I wonder if we'll get some clear answers of lava in A:LoK! :D It's unlikely, but still possible.

Yes, but I think that was water / air bending, he was pulling steam and hot air away from the lava to cool it, being an Avatar.

Once again, there is NO part of lava that is fire.

Except for the actual fire, right? Lava itself is just melted earth but there is still an extreme heat that ignites the surrounding air and creates fire.

While "igniting the air" is questionable to me, even if its on fire, the firebender you can't bend the molten earth, just the fire on top.

No. thats just not right. No. Ignites the air? Nonono. Need I provide more proof?

There is no fire. Even if you find a picture of fire with lava, that means that something flammable fell into the lava and burned. And in ANY case the firebender still can't bend THE LAVA.

But Sozin was bending the heat and he's only a firebender. Which shows that firebenders can bend more than just fire if they're proficent enough with it.

We are talking about a fictious show where the elements can be controled and lightning (which is not fire) can be bent. So I think lava can still be bent by a firebender.

Oh. It was Sozin? In that case its just a flawed loophole...

I know there's a few goofs in the series, but nothing that big. I think they actually meant it to where Sozin can bend the heat. I still think both a firebender and an earthbender (if proficent enough) could bend lava. It's just sounds like it would be very hard/dangerous to do.

Or it was just a goof. Because it still makes no sense, based on the rules we know.
