SO I had this idea going on for a while but what would happen if the Gaang got attacked by a ATLA Plot device and was sent to modern day New York City how would they survive?
These are the two scenarios:

1. They cant use bending
2. They can use bending

You're questions it very clear but I think your saying what if team avatar was in new york city, if so I think they would survive like everyone else, and if they could bend, I think they could either leave NYC for a more alone placeor try could hide their bending, or they could even not hide it idk this is a stupid topic bro lol..
