I lived in San Diego for ten of the thirteen years of my life, and I never had to go through any earthquakes other than a few occasional shudders in the ground that happened every couple of weeks.
My sister and I always though it the earthquake drills were redundant, because they would have you crouched under your desk with one hand on your head and the other on a desk leg for around five or ten minutes, though most earthquakes only last a few seconds.
