Kent Hovind is in jail because he believed - truly believed - that he didn't have to pay taxes for his employees because he was doing God's work. He declared his employees all as missionaries even though they were just regular normal workers. And he truly believed the court would agree with him. Even though he didn't even register the business as a non-profit! Sometimes you can't use "belief" as justification for everything.

All his theories have been debunked. All of them. It's impossible for anyone to even pretend Kent Hovind is anywhere close to having any legitimacy at all. I mean, this is a guy who can't tell the difference between biology and cosmology!

I mean even - ANSWERS IN GENESIS - super conservative creationist group - criticized Hovind for being unethical: Hovind "Persistently use[es] discredited or false arguments, with an unwillingness to correct when the weaknesses are pointed out, and more disturbingly, often fail[s] to understand the reasoning involved."

PS - "Just a theory"? You should have flunked science class.

Misconception: “Evolution is ‘just’ a theory.”
Scientific theories are explanations that are based on lines of evidence, enable valid predictions, and have been tested in many ways. In contrast, there is also a popular definition of theory—a “guess” or “hunch.” These conflicting definitions often cause unnecessary confusion about evolution.

You do know that evolution was proposed BEFORE JESUS WAS BORN?

While I do agree with your sentiments, be careful not to fall into the trap of using 'poisoning-the-well' fallacies, Delmaar. Stay logical, please.

This is true.

Though in Jasmine's defense, theories change all the time. Even Darwin's successive variance theory of evolution failed the test of time, as we are now certain that evolution is just too long a process to just happen without some intense "meddling" as it were, with biology by some sort of external force, hence our current punctuated equilibrium theory of evolution, which is bound to change in the coming years as well. So Jasmine is wise to see scientific theories as just that. Theories.

As for your concluding sentence, I don't see any other point in you saying what you did except to be inflammatory. I'm not sure if moderators care, but this is my thread, and I'd rather not have you start on some implicit jabs at Jasmine's Christianity. Let's keep the civility and show each other love, not enmity, in our conversations.

I don't object to anyone's belief in evolution or think any less of them. So long as they don't think any less of me for my firm belief in Christianity. I only recently began openly disliking the theory because someone called me a fool for believing in an "imaginary superhero in the sky." That really made me angry. I had always not believed in the theory, but I admit my activeness in ridding the theory came from personal fury.

I know exactly what you mean about that stuff. I remember some guy was erroneously saying I believed in a "sky daddy" and some other nonsense like that. People tend to say some really dumb stuff when they have no intellectual reasoning to support their own view, no matter what side they take. Which is part of the reason why I turned to embrace only logical and scholarly discussions of topics, and why I seek to condemn logical fallacies.

Anyway, I hope I didn't do anything to offend you, you know. And I especially hope nothing I said weakened your countenance. I just want to show people that no science can undermine the truth of God, and no Christian should be fearful of science. Not even of evolutionary theory. In all things we can be certain, that God loves us, and unlike all those religions which say that we have to live and die to appease some god(s) in some way, the actual truth is that God has died for us, because he loves us more than we can imagine.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord
. Romans 8:38-39 ;)

So, back to evolution?

edit: And it's good to hear that you're a science-loving girl! I like that. You have any particular field that you enjoy most? Personally I love theological sciences (as you can tell) and computer sciences the best. My least favorite, though, would have to be earth science. Stupid rocks.

I concur. Science is what it is. Religion is what it is. Every now and then, they can cross, and usually when they do, there's a huge debate about it. I wish that each would stay where it should be, so no conflicts would divide people like this.

Evolution? Yes.
Self-aware Creation? Yes
Obviously the same thing viewed from more than one point.
