Actually, I'm kinda confused. If Kya, Bumi & Tenzin were all children to Katara & Aang. And that every airnomad was borned to be an airbender. And I get that Katara is a waterbender which makes Kya a waterbender to, but why is Bumi a non-bender? AFter all his name does mean "Earth"

I'd totally be bitter if I were him. To be named after such greatness, born of heroes and yet have no ability to be as great as his parents and namesake. I'd be so bitter to the point I'd put on a mask, give myself a nickname, and start an anti-bending revolution. o_O

Well obviously he's named after Aang's oldest friend and Order of the White Lotus member King Bumi of Omashu.

They probably didn't know whether or not he could bend when they named him but I'm pretty sure they didn't factor that in regardless.

It makes sense that Katara would have at least one child whose a non-bender given that her brother is a non-bender.

I'm sure Bumi bonded with his Uncle Sokka over being both muggles.

What I'm curious about is Sokka's kids and whether any of them are waterbenders. I'd assume their mother would Suki, but she wasn't an earthbender so I doubt there'd be a chance of any of them being earthbenders.

From what I remember, it was Katara who was the odd one out of her family as a waterbender. Both her parents were non-benders and as far as I can tell we don't know of any benders in her family at all. So she's sort of a Hermione-style muggleborn witch. Soooo I 'spose Sokka is just a muggle with a bender sister and Bumi is a mudblood/squib with a bender mother and Avatar father.
