What is This "Republic City?"

Discussion and speculation about what Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will be about.

What is This "Republic City?"

Postby Glitch on Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:37 pm

There's lots of talk about what the Republic City is: whether it's a new city that was born after the war, a city changed into republic city, or a city that had always been existent.

My two theories are:
  • It was a new city formed in honor of the end of the war, and was inhabited with all four nations. It is probably like a capital of some sort for world peace to help the avatar in keeping balance.
  • My other thought was that republic city is just Ba Sing Se with a huge and major government swap in honor of the end of the war and to keep peace.
What do you think?

PS: I love that threads are popping up everywhere about LoK now. It's making me more and more excited. :D

No to the second. That would end the Earth King's arc and boil his character down to nothing. He was meant to return to Ba Sing Se after his experiences and truly lead for the first time. It's a new city.

By the looks of the concept art, it COULD be Kyoshi Island maybe? Bryan Konietzko said "a city that juts out on a peninsula or an island and has these big mountains around it." Possibilities.

Chill your attitude, dude. The Earth King was humble enough to admit that he was leading a city of fools. I see no reason why he couldn't change the ways of his city in the process. I'm betting on a new city now that Bryke said it's on a peninsula, but otherwise it would have been fine to be Ba Sing Se. I'm going with new city near an air temple.

Republic tends to stand for freedom, democracy blahblah and whatever. Probably a city that was made on Fire Nation soil that was open to all other nations.

It looks kick ass though. I have no issue with the name either, some people do. Zuko was never really that creative anyway. I'm sure the last thing on his priority list was "fancy-ass name for this new city."

When did the Earth King ever say he was "leading a city of fools"?

And what attitude? It was a simple post of my opinion, as you asked. :eh:

A) "I want to thank you, young heroes for opening my eyes. All this time, what I thought was a great metropolis, was merely a city of fools, and that makes me the king fool."

B) Your posts are generally not-so-nice and sound depressive and derogatory to anyone who's opinion is not equal with yours. But whatever.

I think context is important here. From your post you made it seem like the Earth King genuinely thought his city was retarded, when in actuality he's simply stating that the city has had the wool pulled over their eyes, and his role as ruler has made him the most foolish in being oblivious to the state of his city and the world. It would be enormously irresponsible for him to simply give up his responsibility as king. I think the entire point of him going on his "adventure" was to see the state of the world in much the same way Siddhartha Guatama did before he became the Buddha. It's most likely he'll return to be a very wise ruler.

I don't understand where you got the idea that my posts are "generally" "not-so-nice", "depressive", and "derogatory". I've always been level-headed, used lots of emoticons, and respected everyone else's opinion on any subject. I believe this is the first time you and I have ever even spoke to each other anyways.

Guys. It's just Avatar.
Zip up your pants. Both of you.

I'm in a snarky mood. Everyone just keep their pants zipped and we won't have an issue.
