A forum for each movie?

Postby Internet Meme on Fri Jun 25, 2010 1:10 pm

I noticed that the threads in the general discussion are unneccessarly strict. Threads that are worthy of specific discussion are being deleted left and right, despite the fact that they're pretty useful and ask questions worth thinking about and answering. I find this especially common for anything related to the second and third movie.

Recently I saw a thread asking which of the seasons would be easiest for M. Night to film. To me, and a few other members, this was a very, very interesting question. However, since there is a thread dedicated to ALL discussions of the second AND third movies, this thread was locked.

Discussion of the other movies shouldn't be limited to ONE thread. Threads get cluttered and confusing when discussing movies, especially if the site is only dedicated to three movies, and two of them are stuck in a massive thread.

So why not make a forum for each seperate movie? Already there is discussion of the other two movies, so they wouldn't be worthless, and it would save a lot of frustration for users when wanting to read about the other movies as well as discuss. It would save a lot of interesting discussions and questions from being lost in one massive thread.

I was thinking about that, and the casting for the sequel will start soon. It will be a real mess if all movies will be discussed in one sub-forum.

We'll just add a whole new subforum for the second movie in between The Last Airbender Film and The Media Room. (Or at least what I expect.)

But when the time is right. The first movie hasn't even come out yet.

That thread wasn't locked because it related to the 2nd and 3rd movies and we already had a thread about it. It was locked because the idea was too specific, and lacked scope. We don't need a thread created for every little thing. The more threads there are about ridiculously specific topics, the longer it takes to catch up when you've been away from the forum for even a day, and that is something I am interested in minimizing.
And unfortunately, we don't cater to what each and every member thinks is interesting. This is a discussion forum, so the broader the appeal, the more inclusive, the better.
And the thread you mentioned was very obviously bound for being locked. Seriously, 80% of what people were talking about was whether the thread would be locked. Not that I support that (I don't), but it was very clear.
And we won't be creating a subforum for future movies until there is actually some information on those movies. As Caleb said, movie 1 hasn't even come out yet.

I didn't think that particular thread was too specific. TOO specific would be "hey, what will M. Night do about that scene where Azula is fighting Zuko In episode OVER 9000 where they do the backflips and willywhoos all over the candy palace. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO CREATE THAT SCENE!?" Maybe it wasn't as broad as "Your opinion on the entire Avatar franchise", but I personally think it was broad enough to be discuss. [off-topic]

Anywho, why wait for information? We have a sub-forum for The Legend of Korra mini series, and it was around when a new series was just speculation and rumor. Obviously people want to discuss these movies, even if the first one isn't out yet. The sub-forum is will be created anyway, so why not get an early start for people to get in their speculations and predictions?

But of course, it's your decision. Just stating my opinion

I would cast a vote to start a subforum about a month after the movie comes out. There's absolutely no news on the second movie except that it's being written... that's it. >_>

I agree. Not to mention all the threads that would come out of the subforum would be:

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING A SECOND MOVIE?
"SECOND MOVIE MERGED WITH THIRD MAYBE?"
"SECOND MOVIE? TITLES?!"
"WHO WILL BE CAST AS ANNG? HOW ABOUT TOF?!"
"AZULA SHOULDNT BE TAN IN THIS MOVIE."
"I HATE THAT THREAD UP THERE ^ "
"YOU STFU RACIST! ^"
"YOU MEAN ME? I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT TUF!"
"NO NOT YOU. THE ONE WHO WANTED AZULA AS TAN!"
"AM NOT RACIST. IM 4 THE MOVIE!"
"I'M CONFUSED. I WANT TUF"

Lmao. The thought of people conversing through topic titles is mildly amusing. Even though this is exaggerated, yeah, totally not needed right now. So I'm going to have to go with Glitch and Absy here.

Would be as ridiculous as HP fans still boycotting because Half Blood Prince was moved.
