So, yeah, the episode bodes well for the rest of the show. It does seem to same balance of elements (heh) that made the original series as endearing as it is. The characters that have been introduced so far are all charming and feel real, the humor and awe and sense of myth is all preserved. The show does seem, as Bryke said it would be, more mature and sophisticated, but still connected to the feel of the original show. The show seems to move a little faster than the first one did, trying to tell much more story in one episode, but it doesn't feel rushed like I was afraid it would. Brake said this show would be more tight with little "filler," and it hit the ground running and it assumes you are familiar with the world. The old show was able to use its slower story parts very effectively to build character moments, and I hope that will not be lost as this series continues. I miss the spirit of Sokka, but I seems that spirit will be delivered in Bolin who has not yet been introduced. We will see if he can live up to the mighty Sokka.

Also, the show creators are f***ing taunting fans with a reference to
Zuko's mom

that deliberately answered nothing. They are f***ing teases. :D

I wonder how this is going to affect not only the show but everyone who worked on the project as well, this really worries me.

Yeah I'm -really- happy with the outcome. They did rush but just so they can already start on her time in republic city. Taking time showing how she mastered the other elements and growing up would have taken away more episode time used to work on the current situation, just how with Aang's series, it started right where he was unfrozen from the iceberg.

I love the sophisticated feel of it and I can't get enough on how the advancements are, its more related to today's time but still has some method from the older episodes.

No shame from watching it either. I probably wouldn't have seen it opening night as it is.

First off, I would love to have watched the episode on the premiere date, but I know that I can't because I always have something on Saturday mornings. :P

Wow, I'm in love with Republic City and the new industrial-ness!! The music is really great too..especially
in the scene when Korra is chased by the metalbending police. It shows a perfect balance of the different technological time period and the Asian style twist.

They also set up the Anti-bender problem really well too! Already I can see the complication and turmoil of dealing with benders in Republic City...

...as seen when the 3 thugs picked on the defenseless shop owner..Which had a great fight scene with Korra pwning!

Watched it because I was going to watch it online anyway due to not having a TV

I realize that it was always supposed to be set in Republic City but I feel like Korra should have taken a journey before getting set up there as the Avatar. Whats-his-beard caved in wayyyyy too easily and with very little explanation on why other than he felt kind of sorry seeing her walk away all sad. I was expecting better justification, but that was really the only issue I had with the episode. The rest was great

although

they're definitely targeting an older audience this time around. Besides Korra and the airbender kids there were no other kids or teens in this episode. -Every- secondary character was an adult, and the themes right from the beginning were pretty grown-up, with the gap in understanding between Korra and the protestor being one of the most obvious signs that this definitely wasn't a kids' world we're seeing. I'm very happy with the new, more adult themes of the series and I hope they really take the franchise to new places. Love Toph's daughter, she's probably gonna shape up to be one of my favorite characters.

and

RIP Zutara. All those fangirls can still argue that maybe there was a spark or two there, but now we know who she ended up with once and for all. Not sorry in the least.
