Audition/Casting Information

Postby matt800 on Wed Sep 17, 2008 5:55 pm

I made this topic so people can have all the audition information to look at. I will list it all here, and edit my post whenever there is an update. That way it will be easy to find :D Any comments or questions are welcome. Please feel free to use this thread as discussion of auditions or casting. Just remember to look at this first post for official updates.

POST LAST EDITED: December 22th 12:09PM PST

UPDATE:Auditions have closed for the main four characters. Smaller roles/extras may still be available.
(to submit for small roles/extra parts I believe you need to live within 50 miles of the filming location. I think Heery casting is in charge of those roles, but dont quote me on that....)

ABOUT THE PROCESS

The casting is being done on a rolling basis-- no deadlines. They go until they find the right people. They have been auditioning people for several months, and are still searching.

WHAT/WHERE TO SEND

Doug Aibel is the casting director. He is the person you need to send to in order to be considered. If you want a part in the movie send:
-A headshot 8x10 inches with your resume cut to 8x10 inches and stapled or printed to the back of the headshot (back to back)
-A cover letter in normal block business format. Many examples can be found online. Here is one website with help info: http://more.showfax.com/columns/avoice/ ... 00711.html

This material is everything that he requests. If you send additional material, use your common sense to know whether it will be helpful or detrimental. Small things like an extra headshot or dvd about yourself are probably fine--although he may not look at them if he doesnt have time.

The address to mail to is:
Doug Aibel
Vineyard Theatre
108 East 15th Street,
New York City, NY 10003

Send as soon as possible to ensure the greatest chance of them recieving your material before choosing someone else.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Gail Levin of Paramount filled in for Doug Aibel the month of August and out of several thousand submissions, auditioned only a couple hundred. Those auditions are now being reviewed by Doug Aibel.

There was an offical open casting call for Aang through Gail Levin and their website http://www.thelastairbendercasting.com
The deadline for that was Sept 15th and you were to submit a video following their instructions and some paperwork to be considered. We are now past the deadline for that, so they have disabled the website. I do not know what that means for the Lastairbendercasting email, (their email help, to answer people's questions), it may still work, or it may not.

Doug Aibel accepts submissions from outside the USA

They are really only looking for major characters or secondary characters. The minor characters will most likely be casted for out of locals near the film site. If you want to play a secondary character, for example: Ty Lee, you would submit for her as described above, or you could submit for a main character and note in your cover letter your interest to play Ty Lee.

Characters such as Toph will almost certainly not be casted for until the second movie.

BUSINESS FORMALITIES

Your name and contact information should be on all your material you send in. It should also be neatly organized.

Follow the guidelines above for headshot/resume organization.

The cover letter should be separate in the envelope (not stapled to the headshot/resume), but you can paperclip it together.

It is also suggested that your name be on the front of your headshot somewhere. Usually there is a border with your name at the bottom.

Cover letter formalities are listed above

Resume examples can also be found online. As a brief overview, you want to list your:
--acting experience: plays, (community or school) film, commercials, tv.
--acting training: classes, workshops, coaching sessions etc.
--martial arts experience. you could also include gymnastics or dance experience.
--special skills: anything that might make you more suitable for the movie. Primarily acting talents or athletic skills.
Some examples are swimming, gymnastics skills, dance skills, rasing one eyebrow, rock climbing, basketball, other
sports, etc...
--physical attributes: make sure to have your height, weight or clothing sizes, eye color, hair color etc.
--contact information/about you: have your name, phone number, probably your age, email and address arent
necessary but you could include them if you want. They usually suggest not to, as if your resume/photo gets thrown out
you dont want to have your address on it.

This information was found through contacting Paramount Features Casting, Doug Aibel, audition post boards such as ActorsAccess.com, experienced actors, and casting directors.

Thanks to IAMKATARA and PIRATE JEFF for helping find this information. I cant remember everyone else who helped or what they did specifically, so I will just say thanks to everyone on the mnight forums who helped. :D

The deadline to submit for that was September 15th. The site was only to inform people of how to submit, so they took it down. Thanks for reminding me. I will add that to the official list.

yes as I posted above, they are on a rolling basis and are still searching. I will edit that post to say auditions have ended when they have. Feel free to submit to the address I listed there. See if that post can answer any of your questions, but if not feel free to ask.

For the headshot, would it be perferred in color or black and white?

Color. Casting directors now say it pretty much has to be color.

Hey Matt, just wondering if when you say "The cast has been chosen" do you mean all the main characters (even Azula) or the secondary roles as well? Basically, has everyone been cast?

Cheers,
~nicolette

Ps. Thanks for the post by the way, it's the only one that's seemed really professional.
