Lion Turtles and the Era Before the Avatar

Discussion and speculation about what Book 2 of The Legend of Korra will be about.

I just watched Mike and Bryan's commentary on Sozin's Comet: Avatar Aang last night and they spent a lot of time talking about the lion turtle. The thing that really got me was at one point Bryan said something like, "You bet we go some ideas 'bout this stuff," as they talked about their whole concept of the era before the avatar. They also both laughed right after Bryan said it. Also they talked about how the lion turtle was supposed to be the last of his kind and a real animal, distinct from the spirit world.

I read somewhere that the Avatar universe is a world 'lost in time'
Does that mean it's no particular time?

How can that be? All of the characters and objects in ATLA move in time.

I doubt it. Everything develops. The fact that Fire Nation developed new and new machines is an example.

Me and Dipperf had great time in the chat room discussing energybending, history of the avatar universe, origins, lion turtles. We've come to interesting conclusions as well. Good that Dipperf started this subject. I'll just post the chat here:

anywho. My theory is that Energybending alters someone's "Soul" which would connect them to their extended gene pool and could give them any powers that would then spread out throughout descendants and other relatives. I also believe that the animals/celestial being. used energybending at a multitude of people thus "Teaching" them how to bend. and that anybody (not just an avatar) could through great effort gain great understanding of the soul/elements and enable themselves to bend anything they please. as toph semi-did with metal.

MIKE AND BRYAN HAVE SPOKEN!

And energybending is officially only something the Avatar can do.

In The Avatar Art Book, Mike and Bryan wrote:Aang does not kil Ozai. Instead, using a technique available only to the Avatar,he takes away Ozai's Firebending powers and leaves him a weak mean.
