you called it average. you're undermining an academy award winning score. All I'm saying...is that if James Newton Howard had elements of that score....as in a similar sound and instrumentation...plus whatever else he comes up with, I'd be happy. So don't try to play it off like it wasn't a glib comment on your behalf, homie. Also if you go back and listen to Jeremy Zuckerman and Ben Wynn's score for the cartoon they drew from similar inspirations utilizing things like Taiko drums.

sorry , but I really I don't give a flying f**k about who won the Academy Award , read my post again ,I have heard similar scores in so many films that involve Martial arts and I was just hoping that Last Airbender would have something different but still maintaining the classic tunes you see in such films at the same time .The music in that " particular " video wasn't that great imo .

i must be crazy- but i was listening to heavy gear soundtrack- (which i revere and love as much as the game) and alot of the peices reminded me of segments of the series. the music is composed by jeehun hwang- and i think its totally epic and im really hoping the movie composition is like this-

eg. from 6:17 onwards it reminds of when sokka volunteers himself for an almost suicide mission at the north pole
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7UU7xCYtf4

and here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMyK1rO199w&feature=related from the beginning to 3:04 it sounds like epic music for.. say if we get a look at those special archers or the way the fire nation is preparing for battle (similar to sarumans army of hybrids preparing for battle in the second LOTR movie) and from 6:11 to 9:13 reminds me of azula hunting down zuko or aang in general- or maybe when shes with ty lee and mai chasing the avatar at night? you get what i mean!

and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTY-g8k23QA&feature=related from 0-3minutes reminded me of azula aang and zuko fighting against each other at that abandoned town. 3:05- 6:13.. i dno mayybe the blue spirit setting aang free and trying to escape the archers? some other epic chasing scene- maybe sparky sparky boom man (i really hope they have him :()
and from 6:23 onwards- day of black sun? the invasion? mayyybe

theres one more song from heavy gear ost i have on my comp but cant seem to find on youtube and its starts of really beautiful and calm but turns heavy and epic- and thats def fried gold for kataras bloodbending when shes looking for the southern raider-i think. ill post it when i find it

of course the sound effects are so old school- itll be digitally re mastered a squillion times from.. 15 years ago
when it was originally composed- this is the composers website - for more epic and recent music! :)

i understand if u cant see the connection i can see between his music and and ATLA and if u think i need some psychiatric help :P jus SAYIn' i hope the movie score is as badass as this

Those are really nice listens! :D

But I think the best kind of fitting music would be sounds from "organic" instrumentals. It wouldn't fit with sci-fi ish sound style with electronics.

This has little to nothing to do with the topic of the previous posts of late but it counts as score discussion so I'll go ahead and say it:

You guys remember how apparently, during the special screenings, the acting wasn't that good? And how there was also no music throughout the film either?
Well, I think that the acting can be "improved" with the help of the music. Music is essential to adding the tone of each specific scene and personally, I think that often times acting will seem very bad or unimpressive or just plain lame without the proper music playing in the background.
I know that some scenes that had bad acting are gonna be re-shot and that James Newton Howard is working on score at the moment so I think that with improved acting and a great score, those scenes will definitely be improved and the overall feel of the movie will be great.

TL;DR.

@Musemelpomene - Yeah I did think about that- His newer works are alot more diverse in sounds and a few are quite organic sounding- but in general- music that strikes someone imagination and makes them come up with a scene all on their own its like a script itself- like what victor was saying- the music is a backup script so basically hopefully when i buy the soundtrack ( i just have to for the sake of owning random atla memorabilia at least) I wont just think of the scenes in the movie and itll spark my imagination  .

i loved what he said about the score :

A lot of the fans adore the soundtrack that The Track Team created for the series. Are you planning on including any of their iconic themes for James Newton Howard’s score?

Definitely I thought about it, I love the music from the show. James is like my brother, we make movies together and all of that stuff. He Hans Zimmer did the music for Batman and The Dark Knight. How we do it is, I show James the script. This is very unusual from other composer/director relationships, he’ll write the themes of the movie prior to the movie being shot. And he does that based on me just yapping away at him, and telling him what I am imagining. The reason I do it that way is because, rather than being diluted, we’re all coming from the same pool of inspiration. I’ll tell him what I think Zuko means, and what the elements means. What learning water means to me, you know? That kind of thing. You’ll just see him nod and nod. Then he’ll go away and write a suite of music. He wrote a suite of music and it’s inspired by the show: the drums, the percussion, and things like that. Specifically the answer is no, it won’t have the exact themes of the show. It was something we talked about. But James came up with what I think is his best score of his life. If that’s not the best score of the year, I don’t know what is. He killed it! I mean he killed it. You heard some of his music in the first teaser that I did. When you see the movie, the music is just unbelievable. The subject matter is so rich, anyway you want to go, but driven by the emotion. The action is driven by emotion, which is such a great thing for me. We did a little bit of that in Unbreakable, but we had a real great opportunity to do that here. One of the great balancing tricks of the movie was, how much Asian influence to put into the patina of the movie. Do you have pagodas? Do you have this sort of thing? The consensus with the production designer and myself, and consequently with James, was it’s a flavoring. It’s not Asian. We’re not in Asia, but it’s influenced by it. What medieval stuff is to Lord of the Rings, Asia is to us. It’s influencing it, but it’s not necessarily: that’s a kimono or that kind of thing. The same thing goes with the music. We toyed with the idea of it being very Crouching Tiger, but we ended up going with it’s influenced but it has it’s own world. So I’m really excited for you to hear the score.

I'm mostly going to miss the original music. Especially the music from the Season 1 finale part 2 when Aang binds with the ocean spirit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzrFHwUHMic

can you really re-ajust that.

Oh well James Howard has a good track record as far as movie scores go.

This is exactly what I thought. Film score tends to be underrated in that regard.

Anyway, my excitement for this score can't be accurately expressed through text. I will be downloading this the second it becomes available. :D
Something awesome will go here someday.
