Everything you know about these four events you're talking about is from the media. You don't have any other sources other than the media. If you are affected by what has happened, then you are affected by the media's presentation of what has happened, because that is the only presentation of what has happened that is accessible to you.
As much as I would love to be god ....*grins*, no. And your wrong btw... for a small part.
My cousin lives in France, and she was there when the storm hit. I heard it from her. The other three yes, I did see it on the media, but it doesn't control me, I see what I see and weather or not I find them to be interesting or not it entirely up to my own discretion.
And weather what the "media" shows is the source of information that is the most accessible, it still does not change the fact that one's own interpretation and own affections toward what is shown is independent from the media resource.
Now I can understand your feelings towards the media if you go on to say what they say/show is an exaggerated account of the actual facts, then I can see where you are coming from. But I'm a grown person who has this taken into account when watching news/media.
EDIT
That volcano was dormant since 1820.... I do not know my volcano time-line but to me I found it interesting. I wonder how our volcanic (in the state yellow stone) activity is doing...
