It seems like Patik will be an Indian, and respectively, Fire Nation. I see no problem with that, and Shyamalan seems to bring some more deep tones to the movie as well.
It could go like: Guru Patik got tired of Fire Nation's expansion and moved to a more peaceful place - Air Temples.
Guru Pathik was a personal friend with monk Gyatso, that was before the war even started.. but if he lived there when the war started how did he survive.. maybe he wasn't there when it happened.. maybe Tman is right.. I don't think so.. I do.. okey then he is right..
He could even be a Fire Nation soldier
