Aang is the most powerful bender and THE most powerful Avatar.
He masters all the other elements within a year.
The Fortuneteller episode shows really how powerful a bender he is.

The fact that Aang doesn't fight with killing intent towards Ozai for the first part of the battle doesn't show that he is weak.
Fire Lord Ozai is (next to Iroh-then the Avatar) the strongest Firebender around.

What about the part near the start of the fight where Aang's waterbending Completely cancels out Ozai's fire attack?
I think you are putting too much emphasis on the fact that he went into the Avatar state during the second half of the battle. Aang is a more powerful bender than Ozai.

Don't let his demeanor fool you. He is just as vulnerable in the Avatar state as he is normally. Azula proved that.
Aang is the most powerful Avatar yet because he did what no one else would have. He didn't kill Ozai.

I'm going to have to agree with JackalKiller on this one. I don't think there is a "more powerful" Avatar seeing as they're all the same life. The powers of the Avatar are all the same. Is Aang the most powerful bender while he's alive? Yes. The most powerful Avatar? No.

Aang is hardly the "most powerful Avatar yet". By the end of the show he was running the whole fight with Ozai and only won through the Avatar State. While, yes, technically he'd be the most powerful Avatar when in the Avatar State (as every Avatar following the previous would), when he isn't he's still grossly outmatched.

yea aang wouldve been destroyed without the avatar state, and i think even toph could defeat aang if she wanted to

Let's not be rash aang ran because he didn't want to kill him and also aang beat toph before so why would she win?.

I think this is the key to your whole statement. I'm pretty sure the Avatars share the same power. But they each use the powers differently.Like if you hand a video game controller to 2 people and they them play a game using the EXACT same settings, characters, everything; One of them is gonna look better then the other. It's not the tools it the person using them that makes the difference.

Each successive Avatar is the next most powerful. As the Avatar State draws on all the previous Avatars' experience it's natural to assume Aang is the most powerful as he is the most recentand can draw on the most experience. The combined knowledge from all of the previous lives is what makes the Avatar state powerful.

Yes but that's avatar state not just being himself.

Exactly!! Aang is not in The Avatar State all the time but yes Aang's Avatar state is the most powerful And Korra's will be even stronger being she has Aang's knowledge added to it.

IF Korra IS the next Avatar she would be stronger than Aang. After a trilogy sometimes the creators make a prequel maybe Korra will be the first Avatar. We have already seen the mastering of the elements in the traditional avatar cycle. Maybe we will get to see how the Avatar came about. The era before the Avatar may be just as interesting as the era of the last airbender. Aang is one powerful bender. Maybe Korra learns about bending. I argue that Aang is the most powerful bender we see. Good speculations here in this topic.
