Released in India.

Hey fellow Airbender fans. I saw the movie yesterday with my friends in Mumbai. There were hardly an kids watching the movie. I saw two or three kids per se. It was a 11 AM show - Sunday morning. There were atleast a 100 people in there to watch the next M Night film. I am a huge fan of Avatar and M Night.

I am shocked to see such a bad response for the film here and on imdb. Apart from the first 10 mins of the film ,I thought the rest of the movie kicked ass. I felt the introduction of Aang was not that dramatic. However, as soon as Zuko showed up I started enjoying the show. I thought Uncle Iroh was really good; unlike anything from the show. Also i thought the most amazing part of all this was all the long and continuous takes that Shyamalan put in there of Aang doing those crazy ass moves. I also thought that the look was very much the way it was in the show. Appa and Momo were perfect for live action. Also, like all previous protagonists of an M Night Shymalan film this one stay very honest. The protagonist is always running away from his destiny. In this case both Aang and Zuko. I don't know what everyone else is thinking but I thought Dev Patel in here was more likable than the cartoon version. Though i would say that uncle Iroh was no way as likable but he was very different. plus he had crazy calmness to his behaviour and the scene where he reminds Zuko of using his Chi is pretty touching.

When the movie ended my two friends (who i had dragged in and who had not seen the show) were absolutely amazed. They were shocked that they are making such themed movies in Hollywood. They also thought the look and feel of the movies really was top notch and they were psyched that there is going to be a sequel (alas i think from the reaction on this site it seems unlikely ).Also being a brown guy (my friends too ) no one ever felt any race issues. They dint realise that all of fire nation was brown people (may be we in India are not as race sensitive as you guys ). Anyways,me and my friends thought the ending was really cool that of Aang not killing all these fire nation people and that he just scares the sh** out of them by showing how powerful he is and how much devastation he can unleash on the world. Also the fact that there was so much about spirit world and the real world was also that got them involved.

P.S. : our age is 25 to 27 :D .

I wonder why everyone is hating so much. I guess i will have to go back and see what was so bad about it. I thought it was good for first film the series compared to the first harry potter film (btw i love all potter films irrespective of what they are ).

Please dont listen to critics. They are some of the most disparaging and judgemental people in the business. And it seems the critics in America have an abusive relationships with cinema rather than being cinema lovers.

Sorry if this message was too long.

Would love to hear from you all.

With lots of love from india.

I posted that review on my blog! i hope he doesnt mind.

Well I went to see it on my birthday, July 11th, with my sister and her boyfriend. Movie was suppose to start at 4:55 PM and we wre running a little later. We go there just as it was suppose to start. Bought our tickets. I used the restroom before going in. The theater itself is a smaller movie theater and it was showing on the screen in the back. I get in there. The previews haven't started yet because we were the first one to buy tickets for it. As previews start to role 2 other people come in and sit in the back. No one else enters the area so it is just 5 people total watching it. Seems like we all enjoyed the opening credits. As we watch the movie, I try not to cringe hearing Ung. I was enjoying it for the most part until Aang's escape from the ship. I was really dissapointed to not see the battle there we saw in the cartoon but i decided to dismiss it since there was a lot to fit in to the movie. After that things just seem to go downhill. I laughed with SokkView Postnoone23a got frozen by Katara as did my sister and her boyfriend. Then it comes time to see where the Earthbenders are being held. I was really dissapointed to see them not being held on a metal barge. it made me think how about how stupid the Firebenders in the movie were and how stupid the Earthbenders had to be as well. The Firebenders there should easily be able to see they had no chance of holding them captive there and Earthbenders were idiots for not realizing how easy they could overpower their captors. It was also at this point I realized the firebenders could not create their own fire. So another crushing blow there. As the movie. I tried to enjoy it after that. But I was losing hope for the movie. I did really enjoy their time at Southern Air temper. Though I didn't like him entering the spirit relm in his avatar state there. But I can live with it. As it progressed further I found myself wishing this movie would just end. In paticular I didn't like seeing Ang having trouble learning water bending. As we know in the cartoon, he had no problem learning the moves Katara shown him. I enjoyed his getting captured by the fire nation and his whole escape with the help of the blue spirit. Vut from there it seemed to just go further downhill. I thought the northern water tribe city was well designed but I didn't care for how they did the whole opening and shutting of the gate. I was also dissapointed we didn't get to see Ang train and Katara train more. Also I really was hoping to see the stuff about the master refusing to train Katara. But just some of him training her would have satisfied me. Also they should have had her sparring against the master and not Ang. When Sokka was chosen to protect Yue I felt like it was kind of out of no where. Also I kept wondering where the hell her fiancee was. As it came time for Ang to meditate, I got excited when I finally heard Ang call Momo by his name and thought him going for the fish was funny. As it came time for the fire nation to attack, I got really excited. I thought the battle would be awesome. But I found it to be rather boring. When Zuko came to capture Aang I was expecting to see him forming his own fire but instead we see him bring in a torch (wonder where the heck he got that) and lit some grass on fire. His fight with Katara was a little cool but still kind of boring. During the fight I kept thinking why didn't she just bend some water over the fire when he first spread it out with the torch and put out the torch. Then there is where Zuko takes him. He takes him just to some house instead of out in to the harsh winter landscape. Then we get Aang's spiritual relm trip. Not only does he find the dragon fast (which is not what he is suppose to find) but he somehow found his way right back in to his body rather then having to search for it. Then we get the Aang vs Zuko fight. It was interesting, but overall it sucked. Though I was pleasently surprised to see Katara show up and freeze Zuko. After some more scenes which I try to enjoy we get to see the death of the moon spirit. That was pretty good I guess. When Iroh created his own fire and ran off the other firebenders, I loved it. I actually said out loud "About time they do something right." My sister's boyfriend agreed with me. The effect of the moon turning to red was great and I actually got to where I thought the city looked better that way. When Yue sacrified herself to restore the life of the moon spirit I thought that not enough motion was really showed. The whole thing came off soap operaish. As the movie continued I kept wishing to myself it would just end. Then it comes to where Aang is suppose to lose control, go in to his avatar state and trash the ships. Well we see him create a wall of water and scare the hell out of the fire nation. But we don't get to see the ships destroyed as they are suppose to. Also it seemed like Aang was almost in control of his Avatar state which as we know just isn't how it is suppose to me. I was really getting pissed. My sister's boyfriend looked at me and said "I know dude". So he was thinking the same thing as me. Then it only gets worse. We see everyone bowing down before Aang. People are suppose to respect the Avatar but they don't worship him. Then to piss me off more, Katara bows down to him too. SHE IS TOO DAMN PROUD TO BOW TO ANYONE AND HAS A LOT MORE SELF RESPECT THEN THAT!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry for that. That part just really pissed me off. Now I did enjoy the scene with Ozai and Azula at the end. After it was over no one really said a thing. I started to complain but my sister's boyfriend said to wait until we got outside. We all walked out of the theater silently. No claps or anything.

I went to the midnight premiere in my area. People wouldn't shut up towards the start but by the end I could seriously tell the energy level had gone down a lot.

I saw it a second time with maybe half the theater full and the audience seemed indifferent. They didn't seem to hate it but they didn't love it either.

Oh and both times during the earth prison scene, all the women laughed  and all the guys "Oohh.."ed when Sokka gave that Firebender a good kick in the nuts.

It didn't start out as a review. It just came out that way once I started posting. I saw others postings ones such as this so I thought it would be ok. It was kind of hard to give crowd reactions when there wasn't much of a crowd. But since I was part of the audience I figured it was fine. Sorry for putting this in the wrong area though.

I went to see the movie with my family and cousins. There were about ten other people there since we saw it on the Monday post-opening weekend.

Overall it was silent throughout, other than me and my brother's whispers commenting on the film (we got the entire back row so nobody heard us). About half of the theater chuckled when Katara used Waterbending on Sokka in the beginning. Other than that, not much reaction.

i watched it with my gf this afternoon, 1st day...second showing for the day.

no line on the ticket booth coz it's still early, like...part 12noon. most people are still in the office or school im sure.
i thought there's not much people when i enter the movie house but i was surprise that it was full!

most audience in my batch are couples, older people (i was surprised to see an old couple probably in their 60s) :)
the girl next to me obviously have no idea about the series coz she keeps on asking her bf i think about every character's profile. she's talkative but i cant do something about it, at least i can see she's very interested and she is excited i can feel it.
i didnt hear any negative reactions after the movie, which is good :) a lot of people stay on their seats...for sure they will watch it again for the second time.
few people laugh on funny parts...most of the time my audience are silent and serious about the movie.

i'll see next Saturday, i will observe again. im sure a lot of people will watch by then coz it's weekend.
i'll post another observation on Saturday night. :)

The audience reaction here was great. They laughed at the few funny scenes and woahed to the fight scenes. It definitely added to the experience.
