Appa's Lost Days

Postby Mooseboy018 on Sun Jun 06, 2010 11:56 pm

positives:
-Appa and Aang's bond
-Appa meeting Guru Pathik
-Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors fighting Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee
-Iroh seeing Appa and telling Zuko to go back to sleep is one of my favorite scenes in the series.
-Appa's flashbacks

negatives:
-the circus part is boring
-it takes to long to get to the good stuff (basically the last half with Suki and the Guru)

rating: 6.5

I love that they gave Appa his own episode, but the first half is pretty boring. Overall, it's just not that great of an episode, even though there are some great scenes towards the end.

This is probably rare time when a boring episode happens.
Appa's story was tragic and full of grief, it was still boring, especially in the middle.

Yeah, this was my least favorite episode in the series. I can't rewatch it. It's too boring. Besides, I was never much of an Appa fan to begin with.

I don't particularly look forward to watching this episode. It is a tad on the boring side.

The entire episode was pretty bad.
The only thing we learned is that one of the Dai Li (or however you spell it) is taking Appa.

So much hate for this episode. I admit I didn't like this episode much at first. But it's really grown on me while many episodes I used to like very much have...grown off of me? Whatever the opposite of the metaphorical 'growing on' is. I think this episodes tells us alot about Appa that we wouldn't have gotten without it and that we couldn't have gotten without an entire episode dedicated to him.

An interesting note: This episode won an award from the Humane Society for it's depiction of animal cruelty.

That's interesting.

As boring as this episode is, it has important events that all come together in two episodes later. (Azula's crew raiding the Kyoshi Warriors and the Guru who desires to meet Aang).
Even so, it was still terribly boring. :P

The more I watch it the more I find myself admitting that tbqh, it is boring. I really don't have so much of a connection to Appa, and the only reason why I have any pity for him is because Aang is so connected to him, and without him Aang would be miserable for a long time. If it wasn't that way, I would have not had any problem with them never finding Appa at all if they could somehow find some other way of quick transportation.

I used to try and defend the episode with the Kyoshi Warriors really bringing it back up to the top, but really, that's the only part of this episode that I like. Otherwise it is really boring and any time I watch it it's only to see the Kyoshi Warriors vs. Ozai's Angels.

I also despise the Air Temples and everything having to do with them. The Southern Air Temple wasn't that bad because it was quite emotional and done pretty well, despite the different animation style, as well as the Zuko/Zhao sub-plot. But I still don't like the way that episode looks overall and don't like the Air Temple. The Northern Air Temple (episode, not the actual temple... but yeah, that too) I really really despise. That episode was soooo filled with bad acting that it was just... cringe worthy. Probs one of my least favorites. As much as I think The Guru is an amazingly well done episode, I just in general don't like the way Air Temples look, so I didn't like that aspect of the episode. The Western Air Temple was beautiful in every way, but it had nothing to do with the Air Nomads at all, when 103, 117, and (to an extent) 219 did. So technically I just really don't like the Air Nomads, and that's because they're monks that don't ship Kataang. lolol Aang repopulating and changing Air Nomad philosophies FTW!

All that to say that I really don't care what happens to Appa, and I'll plainly admit that I hate Momo. So this episode was really kinda a bummer for me.

:( Am I the only person who loved every moment of this episode? I have always loved how the story manages to tell us about Appa without even making him talk. I actually liked that there wasn't much dialog. *sigh* Maybe I'm just looking at it differently than you guys.
