That's ridiculous. The only evidence you need that bending ability is not hereditary/genetic is that in episode 114, The Fortuneteller, there were a set of identical twins, one of whom was an Earthbender, the other of whom was not. This does not mean, as some others on this forum have incorrectly attested, that anyone can become a bender with enough work. Benders are benders and non-benders cannot become benders, and you can only bender one element (not of your choosing) unless you are the Avatar. Eye color doesn't have anything to do with anything.

I'm not defending the eye thing, that doesn't make too much sense, if your a bender, your a bender from your nation unless your the Avatar. But with the non-bender thing, it'd been said by Mike & Bryan that Sokka had potential to be a waterbender, he just never realized it. So maybe there are a few people that seem like non-benders, but they could actually be benders. Never know.

on a slightly off topic note: has anyone noticed that Aang's eye color constantly changed. It was usually grey, but there were times it was green, blue, brown, and one time, they were purple-ish. i just thought that was weird.

Now that's what I said few pages back..
that maybe there are potential benders, but they just never realize it..
so maybe there were other airbenders born, but never realized that they can airbend, but as I said later probably NOT! because all Air Nomands are born benders so it would be pretty hard to not notice that they can't bend

Are you aware there are alot of real people in real life whose eye color changes, not just from infancy to adulthood, but throughout the day?

I just was reading through this news blurb about the new show and while it's pretty redundant at the end it says there will be more of a focus on the Spirit world. Has this been stated by anyone of importance or is this just an embellishment ?

If it's true that could mean all you Koh fans may get some face stealing action. Also could mean we might meet some new spirits as well.

It says right, in the article, "Many fans theorize that the new series–which its creators have said will have mature, dark themes–will focus more on the spirit world."

It says clearly it is speculation.

Yeah but i've lived in alot of places and i don't usally meet anyone who knows that can happen hell the peopl who's eye color changes don't even notice they do.

Yeah and people say i have an insulting nature ,but here let me explain in simple terms what i mean is some people don't even notice that they're eye color changes all the time and neither do the people around them.And if your still with me then let me also explain that some people don't even know that your eyes could change hope that helps you .

In reality, the color change is probably just a light thing. For some people, they have those kinds of eyes that seem to change color. My sister's like that. Her eyes are hazel, but there's times where she looks like she has brown eyes or green eyes, or even blue eyes, but then you look again and her eyes look hazel again. Anyway...

As for Aang's eye color constantly changing, it might be a symbolism of his being the avatar. As we've noticed, a lot of nations (especially with benders) have a certain eye color (It isn't exactly like that, there are a few exceptions), Earth kingdom= green or brown, water tribes= blue, air nomads= gray, fire nation= tawny. So maybe Aang's eye color change could symbolize that as much as he's an air nomad (his eyes are predominantly gray through the series), he is also a firebender, an earthbender, and a waterbender.
Anyway...

But, one reason every air nomad child was an airbender was probably because of how spiritual the airbenders were. I think spirit has a lot to do with being a bender. And also the air nomads were closest to their bending source animal. I know the fire nation people kept dragons as pets sometimes, but considering that Sozin made it so that killing one was a good/epic thing, probably means they weren't as close as the sky bison & air nomads.

So with the air nomads and most of their philosphy gone, along with most of the bison, there could be a potential air bender, but their potential isn't as obvious as it might have been with monks.

I think Teo could be a good airbender. He may not be able to walk, but that never seemed to stop him from flying around, so maybe. Air is the element of freedom.
