Lol, I don't know how to feel about this.
She seems cute because she's small and has that baby fat thing going on (not hating, we all had baby fat) yet you can tell she is strong and courageous... I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm glad she's totally different from Aang.
Comment by: Moe @ 04:55 pm March 05, 2012

she lacks balance this one... Tenzin will be her spiritual guide
Ok, I guess this answers a question I've had since the original series. Is the Avatar born or incarnated? Clearly from this clip he/she is born, but that raises more questions. Who were Aang's parents? Why were they never shown or even spoken of? Did he ever know them? Was it some kind of airbending custom to send their children away as infants to be raised by the monks?
Comment by: the_water_bender @ 01:02 pm March 06, 2012
My guess about how she learned: Through trial and error.
Even though she was born in a water tribe, it appears (at that time) that Water is her weakest element. So maybe she learned the elements by mimicking what she heard in some stories (You know how today kids mimic what they see on TV) Water seemed to be the second rarest element in the world (I mean almost half of their tribe was knocked out 70+ years ago) so there would be less stories about them. This also explains why she isn't bending air (There are so few Airbenders, so I guess there is that there arent too many stories of them at all... besides Aang of course) And if that was the case, her skills would be improper and limited. Maybe Korra even learned by looking at scrolls laying around somewhere? Again, the air scrolls would be limited at that point in time.... so no Airbending.
Just a simple guess.

Also remember that the Avatar is extremely talented. When Aang picked up waterbending in the original series, he immediatly surpassed Katara, even though she tried to waterbend all her life.

Why wont they just give us the release date already??!!
Comment by: Scotty @ 03:07 pm March 06, 2012
Eric,
You are in desperate need of seeing the Season 3 episode "The Avatar and The Fire Lord". In it there are flashbacks of Avatar Roku and shows that after he dies Aang is born and shows Aang as a baby. And in the end it explains that everyone may have been someone else in a past life.

So, apparently, according to someone that works at McDonald's they'll be selling LOK toys....?
@logo OMG! Really? I will definitely be buying some happy meals! KORRA TOYS!
Comment by: Eric @ 10:02 pm March 06, 2012
Scotty,
Yes, I've seen "The Avatar and the Fire Lord." But go back and watch it again. It doesn't show Aang being "born." It simply shows a monk along with two other monks holding Aang up to a beam of light , as if he had somehow just "appeared" before them as an infant, which is why I questioned whether the Avatar was born to a set of parents or simply incarcated upon the death of the previous Avatar. A birth would imply a mother in labor possibly accompanied by her husband or mate. But we don't see that. We simply see Aang being held up to a window. There is nothing in that scene to indicate a physical birth other than the mere fact that he is a baby. There is also nothing to imply that one of those monks is Aang's mother or father. But now that we know the Avatar is "born" to a set of parents, my question remains. Who were Aang's parents and why were they never shown or even spoken of during the original series? Am I thinking about this too hard? Probably. I suppose I should just enjoy the series for what it is and not get bogged down in so many details. Still, it would be nice to have some concrete answers.

Eric
I think that Aang had parents but because of the way the Air nomads functioned they either sent the children away OR all the elders of that temple taught them. because it seems that Korra is born. just a personal opinion since none of this has been shown to be fact.
Comment by: avatarkorralove @ 08:00 am March 07, 2012
Oh, and there's a new link of Korra fighting along with Mako and Bolin at one of those probending tournaments. Has anyone else seen it?
@Kendrix Yup, if it's true, I will most definitely be buying happy meals by the bundle.
Comment by: logo @ 11:09 am March 07, 2012
@Eric 'Who were Aang's parents and why were they never shown or even spoken of during the original series?"
The answer is simple, they weren't important. Aang never got to have a relationship with them nor did he probably know them all that well. Notice how whenever he refers to someone of any possible parental figure to him it was Gyatso. Always Gyatso.

SPOILER ALERT (well not that much): http://kiwi.kz/watch/c59id9xu4t8y/ Its a clip of Mako Bolin and Korra in a Professional Bending battle...

Eric and Scotty,
Remeber, in the Avatar and the Firelord, Roku is showing Aang his memories of the past. I don't know about you, but I don't have many memories of being born. It's possible that it isn't shown be cause they simply don't remember it.
And because it might not be appropriate for a kids' show.
Comment by: Tanglemorph @ 02:12 pm March 07, 2012
On the same site with the pro-bending clip, there are two other videos: one with metalbender cops, and one that has Korra say goodbye to her parents and Katara. "Escape to Republic City" is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
Comment by: Eric @ 08:22 pm March 07, 2012
Apparently I've struck a few nerves so I apologize. I honestly didn't expect anyone to respond to my first post. I suppose it was more of a rhetorical question that I didn't give enough thought to. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this new series and I for one am digging the modern setting of Republic City. I'm also kind of anxious to see more of Tenzin's kids.
Comment by: Rauger Fi @ 08:50 pm March 07, 2012
@Eric, scotty, Absol197 Yup, and plus, in Appa's lost days, you see other Air Nomad childen at a little kid age, being raised by the nuns of the East Air Temple. And it looks like they get transfered to the monks of the South later. I remember in one interview from Mike and Bryan saying that ALL Air Nomads are airbenders and it being that way had to do with their spiritualness. Theres probably a source link at the avatar wiki on the air nomads section. I could only speculate that the men and women of the nomads were separated for spiritual reasons and that reproducing them air babies would be some kind of seasonal thing or procedural- might be hard to explain in a kids series- but its possible to tell it in a more appropriate way...like penguins (lol I kidding on penguins). But yea, someone go ask this to Mike and Bryan at Comic Con 2012! It would be helpful! And awesome. And u get a cookie. Maybe.. From puppet-Aang. Cookie puppet power fun time yah!

Oh god... Where to start? That video is nothing more then a compilation of pathos and dramatic music aimed to get people to throw money at an organization. Look at this fiancial report here: c2052482.r82.cf0.rackcdn.com/images/737/original/FY11-Audited%20Financial%20Statements.pdf?13 20205055
... Simply put, ONLY 32% OF THE MONEY DONATED TO THEM WAS ACTUALLY SPENT ON AID. The rest was wasted on $1.7 million in salaries, $1.07 million in travel expenses, over $300,000 in video production and countless other useless expenses. And to even quote the creator of Invisible Children about his company "The truth about Invisible Children is that we are not an aid organization, and we don't intend to be. I think people think we're over there delivering shoes or food. But we are an advocacy and awareness organization"
The whole thing is a giant scam aimed towards teenagers who are gullible enough to pay a company, thinking they are helping a cause (that most have only heard of in some 30 minute youtube video) and allow the organization's employees to get $90,000 a year simply on the "donations" they receive.
I'm undoubtedly against children soldiers, I mean, who in their right mind is for it? But don't fall for Invisible Children's clusterf*ck of a scam.
Aang does have parents. read it in one of those books about the show. it talked about some facts in the show like Momo meaning peach in Japanese. the monks took him in after he was born, but it just was never spoken of in the series..maybe they'll mention it in TLOK

Aang is Kryptonian. He's from outer space born from a baby's first laughter on 12 moon cycles. An empty crib was preggers for 12 months and which then (graphically) gave birth to an infant Aang, which will wasnt fully shown in "The Avatar and the Firelord", though the uncut x-rated version will be shown in future episodes when ALL fans turn past 18 years old or old enough, exclusively on the National Geographic channel, since they can't show cribs giving childbirth on Nick. Also, kids don't forget to watch Transformers Prime! Saturdays Only on The Hub!

So, apparently, they're planning on releasing the air date for Korra soon VERY soon. Like in the next few days soon!
Plus, Nick is having a press release tomorrow. So, fingers crossed.

@logo :
Yes, they are. PLUS, according to Bryan Konietzko's Tumblr page, he and Mike DiMartino (they're the creators of both Avatar series) are going to New York City for tomorrow's press release.
