WSJ Interview with 'Korra' Creators Mike & Bryan
Posted to Korra News on June 20, 2012 10:09 PM by NightBender
The Legend of Korra and The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal has posted a new interview with the creators of The Legend of Korra, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. In the interview, the creators shed some light the season finale, as well as the future of the show. Here's a preview:
WSJ: What should fans expect from the season finale?

DiMartino: They can definitely expect more awesome stories, and a few more surprises for sure.

Konietzko: We're really proud of the way the last two episodes came together - especially how the music came together. It's some of the best music that the composer, Jeremy Zuckerman, has ever done. Really emotional, and we're really excited to see how people respond to the end of this little story.

WSJ: Will the music from the show ever be released?

Konietzko: We would love to. It's something we've been pushing for for years, even back on "Avatar." Especially now with the music on "Korra" where Jeremy has been incorporating a lot more live instrumentation, string performers, Chinese instrumental specialists and stuff like that. We would love to. It's a big goal of ours for sure.

Ive recently saw another version of finale promo and again looks clear, at least for me, that Amon open a wall of fire with his hands, I would not became surprised if he could do other tricks besides energy bending, blood bending

Comment by: Gavi @ 07:05 am June 21, 2012
Don't worry. The pictures' fake. Believe me, I was dissapointed too to have seen a massive "spoiler" like that, but you should be happy to know that Aang is not Amon. The writing on the bottom incorrectly say "I am your father," and "Aang's" face was just gotten from a shot of Tenzin's face at the end of 'The Revelation.' Same goes with the Amon mask.

Comment by: Ali @ 06:50 am June 22, 2012
what does ' ideas for past book 2' means? tongue

i read the interview but i dont understand...does that mean there will be more seasons for korra?

If im not wrong, there are only 2 with a total of 26 episodes right? wink

Comment by: dre @ 07:25 am June 22, 2012
We also had mixed feelings for korra. But look how awesome that turned out.

Comment by: Legit @ 08:03 am June 22, 2012
@Ali
It means if Nick let's them/ wants them to make a another season they'll probably do it. So far, yes, there are only going to be 26 episodes.

@dre
Well, that's just your point of view. I know people who hate it, lol. Okay they don't hate it, they just don't like it.

Comment by: Admiral Joe @ 12:00 pm June 22, 2012

Very cool behind the production art and other cool things. It also looks like the creator of Scott Pilgrim comics knows them too. Hmmm, Avatar Korra Vs. the World....versus the Universe...versus Lincoln the president/ vampire slayer tongue

This episode should be shown to every leader of every country....PEACE will just flow through them. (I actually cried when a tear fell from Amon's eyes) crying

Comment by: Kea @ 07:30 am June 23, 2012
Okay soooo like I have mixed emotions about the season finale. I enjoyed every minute of until the ending. I felt they showed too much. I feel they should have ended it with Korra being in the avatar state instead of showing her restoring bending. There is nothing to really look forward to in the second season. Maybe the second season will begin with her restoring all of the benders bending in republic city. They could bring back the terrible two, because I don’t believe they are dead at all. Or maybe we will find out who the fire bender is that killed Moko and Bolin’s parents as well as Asumi’s mother. All in all, I thought it was a good first season..

Comment by: Meelo @ 07:33 am June 23, 2012
that last scene was AWESOME we love you Aang!!!!!

General Iroh aka Ironman the way he was flying!!!!

Amon - I feel Pity for you man... I'm truly sorry...

Tarrlok- you redeem yourself!

Bumi is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My god I can't believe I'm still alive after this finale!!

Comment by: logo @ 09:57 am June 23, 2012
I really hope Tarrlok and Noatok didn't die...or at least Tarrlok. After find out the real story about them, wow, I feel horrible for the both of them.
Any one else notice that a trend? Downright crazy fathers have lead to messed up children. Then there's always that one child that has good in them or doesn't become fully corrupt.
Does Ozai, Azula & Zuko ring a bell?

I must say, the finale was amazing but I feel like they showed us too much to fast.

I used to support Makorra like no other, now I feel it's just annoying and shoved in our faces. But the kiss was a nice touch. I'll give it that.

Comment by: Biruleibe @ 10:41 am June 23, 2012
in one word: disappointed

Comment by: 4everZutara @ 10:55 am June 23, 2012
What you guys have to understand is that was the greatest season we could ask for considering we don't know exactly when season 2 is starting. It was a lil too overwhelming for me to much was happening to fast a lot of emotions everywhere and a lot of different stories put in place. I like how the Korra bending thing played out too with everything. I like how Bryke gave us the background for Amon because personally I thought it was their dad that was Amon but I like that twist. I loved the fact she could give Lin her bending back cause that didn't sit right with me when she got it taken away & introducing Bumi!!!!!! #awesome But ultimately that was the greets thing ever to wrap up those 12 episodes

That's didn't give us Zutara so they shut us up with Makorra...I can live with that lol

Comment by: Infinidy @ 12:42 pm June 23, 2012
I thought that was a lovely season finale. It was just a skoosh bit rushed because there was a lot that had to happen in a short amount of time, but with the time and story Bryke had, they did well. We adults must keep in mind this show is on Nickelodeon. For kids. So there is a simplicity to the story telling that might leave us older folks feeling a little unfulfilled. I had the same feeling at the end of ATLA. I thought it was too rushed. But now that I rewatch it, I just use my imagination to fill in the holes and refigure the things I didn't fully appreciate. It's all still there. This really was an awesome show/season. I liked how Korra losing her bending unlocked her air bending. That was a surprise. I had thought she was gonna glow-it-up and kick butt when Amon grabbed her. But no. The hero fell, and THAT, people, is drama and good story telling. I also expected Korra to be a little more wise and positive about losing her bending after all she's been through and learned. But no. I was disappointed with how she responded, but again, that's actually good story telling. Bryke stayed true to who their character is.

Comment by: Infinidy @ 12:43 pm June 23, 2012
And it's good that we see Korra give Lin her bending back cuz lots of people were upset about that, and it sets the stage for all of us to know what Korra is now capable of. We can all spend the next many months imagining Korra in Republic City giving people back their bending and promoting peace between benders and non-benders. Think of the fan fictions!!!!! Okay. I'm off. ^_^ (GOOD SHOW!!!!!)

Well, here something we can look at now that the season is done... http://kohface.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d54pa6p tongue

Comment by: THE last airbender @ 03:17 pm June 23, 2012
LOVED the finale!!!! just like everyone else thoughh, it did feel a bit rushed but still great! One thing that didnt really sit straight with me is how after everything Amon or should i say Noatak wink but as I was saying, the fact that after everything he went through and did, he just decided to leave and stop his whole movement. I understand he wouldnt have followers anymore, or at least not as many but he was already soo far, he went through so much, seemed like he had a passion for this "equality" that I think he should have fought alittle more. My brain cant exactly put my thoughts into words but I tried my best tongue

Comment by: THE last airbender @ 03:20 pm June 23, 2012
Also, Id like to know how Tenzin ended up being caught!

How do you think Tarlok learned about his father Yukones past?

I LOVE KORRAS AVATAR STATE PART!!!!!!!!!! I get goose bumps every time!

Comment by: jish55 @ 11:52 pm June 23, 2012
I was a bit iffy on this season finale, for the most part, it was pretty good. I loved how it flowed for the most part UP to the point where we find out Amon's history, that really ruined his character concept to me. I also don't really like how Mako and Korra got together, to cliche and really they should of done something else, because I actually like Asami. Then finally besides Amon being a bender and Tarloks brother, I hate that Korra was given her bending back... Not because she should get it back, but because it felt like a last minute addition. I honestly would of made it to where she's able to access airbending and even go into the avatar state, but still should not get her bending back at first. The Avatar's should of revealed a way for her to get it back, thus leading to season two. With this, it also brings the Amon history to where I believe that Amon was who he said he was, and with Korra beating him, it would make republic city hate benders more, thus leading to more of the antagonist of season two, then by season three, Korra has to come to grips with it and face Amon in a final show down, as well as show Republic city that benders were not all bad. But this is just my idea.

Comment by: Tess @ 11:15 pm June 24, 2012
I loved how some thought Amon would be related to Yakone, others on Tarrlok.... and look where we've got into! Well they got both! 2 for 1 deal!

Sorry guys but the finally was horrible horrible garbage and utter nonsense. First the creators destroy the credibility of what could have been one of the greatest villains in anime...AMON. That backstory of him being Tarlock's brother and also a bloodbender was sooo disgusting at best. What were mike and brian thinking? They are too smart to write this crap for the finally of the season. Also that Korra gave back Lin's bending means Amon's activities did not impact the Avatar world and made him a fool and a fraud. Total garbabe.

Comment by: Admiral Joe @ 04:03 pm June 25, 2012
@bosskid11

Not given yet, though according to the interview, Michael Dante Dimartino and Brian Konietzko they said not another two years for sure smile smile Im not sure if it's in this interview or the one from their Tumblr, which i gave the link out earlier

Comment by: teed0m @ 05:32 pm June 25, 2012
@Johnny
Well, something you have to take into consideration is that at first they only thought they were doing 12 episodes. So, of course, everything was rushed and we found out Amon's past/identity etc. It's because at first Mike & Bryan were told that they were only allowed to do one season, but obviously as time passed that changed.

Although,I must say, I agree with you. I wouldn't say it was complete garbage but it was definitely not up to par with ATLA. I hate how they made Amon seem so insignificant at the end, yet throughout the whole season he had been this great person who was to be feared. Heck, even Korra with her BA attitude feared him and even cried. I don't think Amon and Tarrlok should've died. Sure maybe somewhere in season 2 but not at the end of season one. There was still so much that could've been added to their story and the whole entire story in general.
But it is what it is. The finale could've been better, but alas, it wasn't.

Comment by: Johnny @ 06:29 pm June 25, 2012
wink
Teed0m
I accept your opinion but I was not against the pace of the series. I fact I welcome the 12 to 14 episode format, but the last two episodes was a change of tone and were some what inferior to the previous episodes. Now if I knew that 12 episodes were the limit then I would have kept Amon character mysterious and not given that ridiculious backstory cuz if the network wanted more episodes which they did. I would used those episodes to explain Amon's real story and also his motives for starting the equalists. You know what they should have made a separate mini series dedicated to Amon's own story.

Comment by: T-Pain @ 11:40 am June 26, 2012
Amon a boat. Amon a boat. Noatok-y look at me cause I'm sailing on a goat. Im on a boat. Amon a boat. Took a boom Tarrlok at the father-truckin boat.

-The Lonely Island featuring T-Pain. Sorta.

Comment by: Scotty @ 05:50 am June 27, 2012
That Season Finale was amazing, absolutely amazing!!! The pacing was just right, full of action and adventure. Amon's back story was emotional and impact full. The way it ended was such a relief and positive which is the best kind of ending. The airplane action with the martial arts bending was just epic. Best Cartoon I have seen since "Avatar the Last Airbender". I felt it was a series finale instead of just a season finale, which was a real surprise. They really wrapped it up.

Comment by: dre @ 12:16 pm June 27, 2012
i really liked it. but thats just my opinion. sucks that a lot of you didnt. i just want to know what season 2 will be... and when it starts.

Comment by: Admiral Joe @ 03:16 pm June 27, 2012
I liked it too! smile I would still grade it an A- or B+, there's some room for improvement, just for the minor stuff. I don't mind if some don't like it, the world is free to have opinions, I find it quite interesting seeing variety thoughts and opinions.

Plus there's season 2! I can't wait to see what's gonna happen with the Mako/Asami situation, Asami father/daughter situation (Hiroshi still out there), Lieutenant (alive or unconscious?), Uncle Bumi, Aunt Kya, anti-bending citizens who still be hatin', Korra's airbending training, Spirit World, Koh (bad spirit invasion on the physical world, please *wink). I can't wait :3

Comment by: Tess @ 05:10 pm June 27, 2012
Ooo yes same here! Like it a lot, I really wanna know in season 2 what will happen with Asami.

I can't choose between Bosami or Iromi, one's sweet-cute and the other one's hot-tractive. I hope the Asami and father thing becomes the secondary story that evolves through and to, like how Zuko and Uncle story was as time progresses. Something tells me there's still people in that world hating on benders, kind of like how our world still have racist people. Antibendists would'nt fade that quickly.

Having the Krew go to other parts of the world be nice. I wonder how much Ba Sing Se or Oma Shu might have looked, or even the Northern Air Temple people, who were already tech advanced ahead of their time in Aang's days. Oh yes, more Bumi too. I want him to be my cool uncle already :)

Comment by: Legit @ 05:52 pm June 27, 2012
Can somone explain to me the significance of that tear? You know where Korra was cyring? Was it a magical tear/ spiritual tear that called Aang or did they just close up on it for dramatic effect?...
That part confused me. wassat

Comment by: dre @ 12:18 pm June 28, 2012
Aang died because the years stuck in ice finally caught up with him or something like that(I think I read that on the Nick site when exploring republic city).as for toph and Sokka... no idea

Wow I just noticed Ann Curry (Today Show host) really looks like Lin Bei Fong! She's about the right age too.

Legit, the tear meant that Korra was at her most vulnerable, Aang told her that's why he appeared to her.
