UPDATED: A German Avatar fansite, Herr-Der-Elemente.de, recently posted some pictures of the GAang and Zuko on their website. There is no telling where they got these pictures from, but now we have pictures of the main cast members of The Last Airbender.

[Images removed at the request of Paramount Pictures]

Please do not use this website's comments or forums to discuss underground distribution of said photos. However, if you did happen to see them while they were posted... discuss. lol.

smile Well i like Sokka and Kitara i think they look good even though they aren't exactly what they are in the T.V. show. Zuko i don't like he's supposed to be pretty good looking with the exception of his scar but i don't think Dev makes that cut And I'm gonna miss Zuko's ponytail. sad Oh well i suppose I'll have to get over it he's already in the movie. But i think Aang is perfect! and for those saying Aang looks too young you have to keep in mind Kids age rapidly and if they want to make more than on movie it's wise to cast under the age of the character a little bit so they don't end up being too old.

Comment by: FirePrincess @ 01:58 pm July 14, 2009
I'm pretty much happy with all of them! But Aang should smile maybe and Sokka should have like a smirk. But I guess if they are all supposed to be serious in this photo, it works. I really like Zuko except his scar isn't what I imagined, but it works.

I'm not going to judge completely now! I'll wait until the movie actually comes out! These are just some random pics anyway.

Still have faith in M. Night!!!

Comment by: Megan @ 02:35 pm July 14, 2009
Dude, Zuko could be way better.
But they did awesome with Katara and Sokka!

Comment by: Christina @ 02:44 pm July 14, 2009
I'm somewhat unhappy with the way the fur goes across the torso on Sokka/Katara.

Comment by: Syonanto @ 02:57 pm July 14, 2009
The racism in this movie is sickening. You would all do well not to support it.

Comment by: Jeremyx7 @ 03:24 pm July 14, 2009
I must say I'm pretty pleased with these photos overall. Although I agree with a good number of you that Aang really needs to smile or something. I mean I like the way he looks as Aang allot but it's just the pose his face is making. It could be a bit lighter. But then again these are probably most likely production photos to get the look right for the movie. Dev Looks great as Zuko in that pic in my honest opinion!! Looking forward to see more!! laughing

@Syonanto

How do you know? How do you know that there's racism involved with this movie? They chose the actors/actresses they did because they honestly believed that they looked like the characters and could really bring them to life. I think that people going on about this, THEY are being racist.

Comment by: Jaz @ 03:34 pm July 14, 2009
angryThey dont look like the characters, except for nicola. you can hardly see the scar on dev! angry

Comment by: Livre.Fille @ 03:42 pm July 14, 2009
These are interesting...
*shrugs* Just my opinion, but 'Katara' looks way to young... although that might make any Kataang scenes more believable...
Sokka... with that expression, completely different cloths ... I just can't see it. Jackson and Sokka don't seem to look alike at ALL.
Zuko... I know this makes me silly, but between his 'light' scar and having both eyebrows, I'm wondering how he'll be able to pull everything off.

Still waiting to see Aang smile...

When I first saw the shots, the first thing I thought was "Dare to be different." Dev is the only one not facing the camera. Nicola seems kind of distant, but she's still facing the camera.

Comment by: Anon @ 05:33 pm July 14, 2009
Aang looks like a younger mini-me or a mini-me with down syndrome.

Dev/Zuko looks cool. Since he is the best actor of the bunch and he just looks like he belongs in this world more then the others. Honestly though Dev could have played the perfect Sokka with his skill range.

Sokka? Come on! They totally messed this one up. Sokka is going to be a boring character, it reads all over his face. He wants to take a comedic relief character and turn him into a drama queen. One word for this guy, expressionless!

Katara looks like she belongs in Narina. She has no place in the Avatar world. Wait my mistake, this is the Last Airbender world, it's different.
I always imagine Katara as a girl who didn't mind getting her hands dirty, this Katara is a little princess, she looks stuck up.

I can see ILM doing an amazing job with the VFX but ILM is not doing the acting. I feel the VFX is what is going to save these actors from looking really bad. The only actor that can pull it off is Dev. He knows how to fight and he is a good actor. I hope he has most of the screen time, because the others look like they will waste our time.

Just my opinion.

Katara and Sokka need a Tan!

Aang: I liked the first picture of Aang that was released better.
Zuko: Nice :)
Sokka: Ugh... No tan, he's as white as the snow. his coat is supossed to be blue. Hair is good though.
Katara: White? She looks better in the anime. and she needs to have a blue coat. But the hair is decent.

Comment by: voust @ 06:22 am July 15, 2009
wtf dudes you want make this movie disaster I`m starting to think like that because you want BLUE coats, big arrows on ang big unrealistic scar un zukos face cmon this ir real action movie not a cartoon for cartoon it was good, but it wont do for the movie. just my opinion.

wassat
I am not sure of the cast. Yeah..yeah..i read all the comments. The idea was to make the real characters look a little like the cartoon right? Also the martial arts in the trailer looks a little lame. I'm no expert but my father is a time black belt champion it 3 forms of Martial arts discipline. (one of them being art of weapons) I hope this will be a good film if not.....what a waste.

Comment by: VictorZamora @ 04:17 pm July 15, 2009
Rachel, you need to take a chill pill.
I'm not gonna say anything other than this:

Scars usually are a bit darker than the usual skin tone. I should know since I have a giant burn scar on my leg. So please don't complain about it. Scars are almost always a bit darker than the person's skin tone. I am Dev's exact skin tone and his scar is the exact same shade as mine, I speak from experience. Don't freak out over a scar like his. And you use "<> codes" too much.

Comment by: AcaciaTree @ 06:17 pm July 15, 2009
@VictorZamora: yeah, i completely agree with you. the scar zuko has in the show is... a bit too prominent, if you will. the scar they put on dev is realistic, more believable. i like it.

btw, he completely nailed the angry zuko look smile good job dev.

Comment by: Monodi @ 06:47 pm July 15, 2009
What the fuck did they do to Katara and Sokka? I can accept Aang and Zuko, but the twins should be at least more faithful to their original designs. If they are tan-colored, THEY ARE FUCKING IT, because they are based on eskimos, not fucking Iceland.

Comment by: AvatarRelic @ 06:56 pm July 15, 2009
@Monodi, What are you talking about THEY ARE NOT TWINS didnt you watch the show????, but i agree with you in a way (not about them being twins) they shouldve tanned them more, and Sokka's 15 and Katara's 14

Comment by: AvatarRelic @ 07:05 pm July 15, 2009
Honestly, i like what they did with Katara, Sokka is also pretty good, and Aang just needs to smile, but i still dont like how they used dev as Zuko, i hope they still use the pony tail, and it dsnt look like hes burnt, cuz his eye should have a bit of a deformation from the burn, aswell as his ear, but overall i like everyone's outfits and stuff lol

Comment by: SoulDemo @ 07:15 pm July 15, 2009
xD Zuko with an eyebrow. I love them! Just need some more teaser stuff >.<

Comment by: christina @ 07:35 pm July 15, 2009
eh they're too young and zuko's too creepy i like the animated version better

Comment by: Christina @ 10:26 pm July 15, 2009
@christina

What do you mean, they're too young? Nicola is 14, Noah is 12, Jackson is much older than his character, and Dev is 18. Everyone's either the correct age or older.

Comment by: twilight_girl @ 10:28 pm July 15, 2009
i reakon they r all look good but the person who plays aang has to work on his facial expression, make it more lively..

jackson looks soo sweet.. as always lol :)

Comment by: ayuffers @ 11:32 pm July 15, 2009
Dev should have lost the eyebrow. XD

I like it overall. All that's left if they can act their characters.

Comment by: Amoredilibri @ 11:33 pm July 15, 2009
I've got really mixed feelings about these photos. The three heroes are white, the villain is not, and the main cast doesn't do a good job of representing the Asian culture or diversity that made the original so special.

On the other hand, I want the movie to do well because I'm such a big fan, and I'd like to believe that the original creators and Shyamalan are very creative people with a great gift for storytelling.

I understand that it's really not a sticking point for a lot of people, as long as the characters stay true to their personalities, but it bothers me. I can't believe that Katara, Sokka, Aang, and Zuko are the people they are independent of the various cultures they were raised in. Cultures that the creators have explicitly stated were modeled after Asian/Inuit cultures. Would Katara have the same necklace if she hadn't come from the tribe that she did? Would Sokka have the same fighting style? Would Aang have the same code of ethics if he hadn't been raised by essentially Buddhist inspired monks?

I guess I'm not just looking for the excitement and fun of having a live-action Avatar film (although, dude, how awesome is that?!) but also some respect for the source material and the world the original series inhabited. The movie should’nt be a copy of the series, but it'd have been nice if they'd acknowledged that the heroes don't always have to be white.

Comment by: Kourtney @ 12:37 am July 16, 2009
Am I the only one who hates the choice of Zuko?

Comment by: ugh @ 01:32 am July 16, 2009
this is a disgrace to Avatar, if anyone has actually watched the show, they would see that their doing it no justice. Not to mention the cast is crap, they couldn't at least get some Pacific Islanders to play Katara or Sokka. Come on you guys are totally white washing this movie, just like you did with Dragon Ball Z and Goku it's unbelievable. These people look like random people dresses for Halloween. I'm going to pretend like the movie doesn't even exist because it will only leave a bad taste in my mouth. I would rather remember Avatar the way they left it on the series finale. angry

Comment by: Hujan @ 04:38 am July 16, 2009
..I don't believe it. Katara actually looks kinda cute. But Sokka just doesn't do it here. Hmm maybe because he's 20+ and just not dark skinned as he's supposed to be.. (this goes for Katara as well.)

Comment by: pyve @ 06:44 am July 16, 2009
Seriously, I don't know why everyone is getting upset over a skin tone. Katara, in my opinion, looks A LOT better here than in the cartoon. The color scheme of the outfit goes well with her skin tone.

They're a possibil ity the Water Tribe was originally pale.. The the animators could have pointed out that they'd be better darker so you can distinguish them from the others and for animation purposes (like colored hair in Anime).

Another thing I just don't understand is most anti-casters. They say the cast is racist, then turn their backs and say, "I hate them because they're not Asian"... Yeah, that remark is kinda racist itself.

Comment by: pyve @ 06:46 am July 16, 2009
Gahh, sorry for the typos. v.v I don't proof read much.

smile smile smile I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR PICS OF KATARA AND SOKKA!!!!

Comment by: Cy @ 12:19 pm July 16, 2009
Wow, Dev actually looks prety good as Zuko here (the scar looks really cool!). He's got that intense, sulky Zuko expression down pat, and he does actually look the right age for Zuko. Based on his performance in Slumdog, I know he can pull off Zuko's vulnerable side well enough, but let's see how badass he can make Zuko's fire bending moves (he better bring it!!).

The other three are okay... better than I was imagining when I heard they went with a non-Asian cast (does America hate Asian faces so much...? ;__; ), but the kid playing Aang is so solemn-looking. I hope it's just the mugshot and he plays Aang with the same exuberant goofiness that we loved him for in the TV series.

Katara actually looks pretty in-character--her expression is just right for serious, caring, slightly anxious Katara. But she's a lot younger than I imagined, which makes me wonder if she'll be able to pull off Katara's quietly powerful maternal authority over the group.

Jackson Rathbone as Sokka doesn't look too bad (I thought he'd be way too old for the role), but I sure hope he can act comedically enough to pull off Sokka. Sokka is our Everyman, so the film would lose some of its impact if we can't identify/sympathize with Sokka, and his humor is a large part of what makes it work.

Well, though I would've done the casting differently (more faithfully to the TV show), I'm still super excited about this movie! Can't wait~!!

Comment by: Sen @ 01:31 pm July 16, 2009
All look good. :D
Although, I feel bad for Noah Ringer. He looks awfully tired :( Poor guy. I hope they let him at least get some rest... and have him smile. D: I bet if we just saw his smile it would change EVERYTHING. ^^

Comment by: macready84464 @ 04:03 pm July 16, 2009
I was gonna read all of these but if i see another comment about katara or sokka's expressions i'm gonna slit my throat. It's just a reference shot. They're not supposed to have an expression. Doesn't the fact that the background is completely white give that away? rant over. All in all i love the costumes and the way everyone looks. Now to see them in character.

Comment by: Caleb @ 04:43 pm July 16, 2009
Yay, they're official-er than more, and I have them! smile

Comment by: brakerbreaker @ 08:16 pm July 16, 2009
To macready84464:
They live at the south pole. It could be completely white. Just sayin'.

Comment by: Christina @ 01:00 am July 17, 2009
I'm glad that I saved 'em.

Comment by: watabenda @ 12:25 pm July 17, 2009
btw: you can go to youtube and look for the photos, they have them on there.

Noah really needs to smile, he looks all angry, like he's getting a mug shot.

Jackson looks kinda old to play Sokka, honestly with his big eyes, I immediately think of Jasper

Nicola looks okay. She seems a bit young to play Katara though.

Dev looks decent enough. I'm still a little disappointed with his scar, it's barley there.

Over all, it's okay. I'm not all thrilled with the casting choices, but oh well, its been done.
I'm ready to see some action though, some awesome bending, and I want to see a smile on Aang's face!!!!

Comment by: eshutin @ 07:22 pm July 21, 2009
I really like Noah as Aang, though he does look strange in this pic. Everyone keeps saying that Aang need to smile, well I'm sure he will in the movie. But i mean, come on, all we've seen in one pose of him in a fighting stance and a teaser of him practicing (during which he had a hood on most the time.) I mean maybe I'm remembering the show wrong but he didn't smile all that often when he fought.

Sokka doesn't really look like sokka to me nor does katara, but they are fine. I wouldn't have picked them, but oh well. The do look like siblings though.

Sokka, is probably the hardest character to do. Simply because 80% of his character was the voice and the other 20% was the funny physical comedy that you can only pull off in animation. He simply doesn't translate easily into live action. As for their clothes. In design, they are very good adaptions. Yes, I miss the blue too, but realistically if you live in the antarctic and are making all your clothes out of animal pelts, you aren't going to have a lot of color options to begin with.

I admit Dev doesn't look anything like Zuko, but the more I see him the more I like him. For me the defining feature of Zuko (beside the obvious scar) was his scowl. And I think Dev very much has that scowl down. As for the scar, it's great. It actually looks like a burn scar.

Comment by: CK @ 03:21 am September 13, 2009
why does everyone keep saying that they look good!?!?!?!? they all look HORRIBLE,

zuko- OMFG! i dont even know where to begin, his head should be shaved, and his ponytail should be up, and his scar should be more visible, and his skin should be less tan.

aang-he does look very angry, or lik he wants to kill someone, but hopefully he turns into the goofy aang we all love, and his tattoo is just ugly.

sokka- the actor choice is good, but his hair should be in the wolf-tail it's supposed to be not some cheap knock-off, and he should be more tan, not white.

katara- now she does indeed look very young, but it's a nice edit and she needs to be just a little darker.

iroh- ( this is for the people who have seen who iroh is being played by ) now honestly who ever chose this guy for iroh is , STUPID, this guy is nothing close to iroh, he is supposed to be just a little husky, but not fat, and most importantly ASIAN, im not trying to offend any one or be racist, but this is a movie based off of a cartoon that was based off of asian culture, they should at least put SOME asian people in here, not a whole buncha of indian/middle-eastern people... it just ruins the movie enetirely....

overall M. night has COMPLETELY ruined this movie, im probably going to see it, anyways, but its still goin to suck, he has disgraced the avatar name and NEEDS to stop making movies.
